When it comes to change, are you all in…or all out?
You’ve seen the adverts year in year out…New year new you!
Lose weight feel great!
I must admit only every after a seasonal splurge of overindulgence at Christmas are these welcome forms of encouragement but have we heard it all before and nobody’s listening…Do they now fall on deaf ears? Do we see them purely as a gimmick and another sales opportunity, or is it time to see things from a fresh perspective?
I’m a big believer in change, I try and embrace it as much as possible if there’s an opportunity to learn it grab it by the horns. As our world is ever changing I feel so should our mindsets, our challenges, and indeed our habits. After all nothing changes if nothing changes right!?
Every five years or so I like to challenge myself and reinvent myself, not only in the way I dress or my hairstyle, but alter course pick up something new a new hobby, or a radical change of some sort.
Learning how to manage my anxiety on a daily basis I like to keep busy and stay in the moment as best I can. I only used to pick up a book for example when jetting off on holiday, just something to pass the time and as a creature of habit, I only ever used to read the same author. Recently I’ve opened my mind to new authors and genres which has opened my eyes to a whole new world by pure default. True to form last September once in the airport I happily waltzed into WH Smiths to pick up my holiday book, when shock horror my trusty author’s latest book was no-where to be found. I tried something different, only drawn to the book due to the shocking title “The art of not giving a f*ck” by Mark Manson. But not only had I picked up a truly inspiring book and loved the concept, but it also had a huge impact on an outdated mindset that I had. It really made me sit up and pay attention, realise my worth and I came home with a whole new mindset and outlook on life. Which in turn lead me to give up drinking for months, which ultimately changed my drinking habits on a massive scale, to chasing a job opportunity at my place of work, the same place I’ve worked at for the past 19 years…that I thought was out of reach, this resulted in me embarking on a training course for a managerial position at work to become an operational manager. All from stepping outside my comfort zone and picking up a very different book and keeping an open mind. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t be afraid to roll with the punches and grasp new beginnings such as a new year for instance as it could lead you to a whole new you! I just want to leave you guys with a closing thought, I came across this whilst in my non-drinking phase and it still inspires me to this day.
